Olive Oil

Another apology is in order. This blogging thing is ngumu. Weh! Requires more commitment than my relationship. Lol. But you know what they say, dust yourself off and try again. So here I am, trying.

My hair has made so much progress, ladies. I’m proud, proud of it. Don’t think it’s a TWA anymore. I can actually hold it in a bun 💅💅 I’ll post deets of my current regimen and photos soon.

Today’s post is the fourth in a series about natural oils and their benefits for your hair. You can read about Avocado Oil here, Castor Oil here and Sesame seed oil here. We still have some sesame seed oil and avocado oil on sale, so you can make your order by calling/texting/whatsapp-ing us on 0725466132.

Olive Oil is obtained by pressing the Olive fruit which grows in the Mediterranean Basin Countries, including Kenya. It’s one of those oils that you can use in your kitchen and your hair. Who doesn’t love those?

Olive oil is composed mainly of the mixed triglyceride esters of oleic acid and palmitic acid and of other fatty acids, along with traces of squalene (up to 0.7%) and sterols.

Benefits For Your Hair?

-Olive Oil penetrates the hair shaft well because it has a lot of saturated and mono unsaturated fats. This makes it a really good oil for pre poos and will protect your hair from hygral fatigue (weakening of hair due to swelling in the presence of water and shrinking when dry)

-The high levels of monounsaturated fatty acids and phytosterols in Olive Oil (only less than in Jojoba, Coconut and Avocado Oils) work to moisturize, nourish and strengthen your hair strands.

-It contains Vitamins E and K which promote hair growth and reduce split ends by penetrating scalp and regenerating hair follicles.

-Vitamins E and K are anti oxidants that counter free radical damage and act as sun screen, protecting your hair from harmful UV rays.

-There are claims that massaging Olive Oil into your scalp reduces hair breakage due to it’s action against the hormone DHT that plays a role in hair breakage leading to alopecia(hair loss)

You can massage Olive Oil into your scalp everyday to ease dryness and to enhance shine. You can use it alone or with another carrier or essential oil.
It’s excellent for pre poos, to improve the slip of your conditioner and as a sealant.
I’m currently using Pietro Coricelli Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

It got it from Tuskys here in Kericho at 700, I think, for 500ml. It’s a UK product, though, so if anyone knows where I can get some Kenyan Olive Oil, I’d be glad to know. I am a big fan of Olive Oil and it’s a staple for my hair.

Do you use Olive Oil? Tell us about it.

Love,
M.
